“’Split’ is one of the rawest songs I have written,” explains captivating newcomer Lindsay Munroe. Her latest track combines extremely personal messages that hit home hard for both their composer and surely any listener. She describes the background of the track: “I spent my early 20s in conservative religious environments, embedded in black-and-white thinking and beliefs. Increasingly I felt like I had to leave part of myself at the door, painfully unable to be open about my life and choices. ‘Split’ came from an attempt to move beyond the hurt and exhaustion of that situation”. All of this heaviness manifests itself musically through a vulnerable, isolated introduction before rising like a lump in the throat to a grand, cinematic conclusion loaded with volume and beefy textures. It might only be the second track from her upcoming (May 8^th) EP, Our Heaviness, but it’s surely one to have gained her a lot of new fans. - Dan Peeke
